Training is what a gymnast does almost every day of their lives. Wether it is at home or at their gym gymnasts are always training to become better. I personally train my skills at the gym but I improve my strength and flexibility at home. There are three things that you can do to improve yourself as a gymnast.
Firstly, you can practice the skills that you are working on at the gym. It is advised to only work on them when you have a mat and after you are stretched. It is also important to only practice the skills that you can do without you coach or instructor there to supervise you. The trick is to keep practicing them until you feel that you have pushed yourself to your limit, that is what gymnastics is all about, pushing yourself to your limit.
Secondly, if you feel that you need to gain strength or flexibility then you can train normally. For example, if I needed to gain strength in order to landed a back flip then I would train to improve strength.
Things you can do to improve your strength:
-Push-ups
-Sit ups
-Weight lifting(very light, 2-3 Kg max.)
-Run
There are many more things that you can do but I would be sitting here all day explaining them to you!
Things you can do to improve flexibility:
There is one thing and one thing only that you can do to improve your flexibility:
STRETCH EVERY SINGLE DAY!
The last thing that you can do to improve your self as a gymnast is to follow this motto: Practice makes perfect.
